Pokemon Team Building (Switch)

Final Projects or Artifacts:

Students will create a Competitive Pokémon Team Portfolio, which includes: A Fully-Trained Pokémon Team – A complete battle-ready team (with EVs, IVs, abilities, and movesets) built for a specific format (Singles/Doubles). A Battle Strategy Guide – A written breakdown of their team composition, synergy, weaknesses, counters, and usage strategies. Recorded Battle Analysis – A video or written battle review of a competitive match, highlighting key moments, strategies, and areas for improvement. Meta Analysis Report – A study of the current competitive meta, including top-used Pokémon, common strategies, and predictions for future trends.

Program Requirements:

  • Nintendo Switch
  • Instructor access to SmartBoard or Projector
  • Student Accounts Created Prior to First Session
  • Laptop 1 per student (ex: Chromebook; Lenovo)
  • Pokemon Scarlet/Violet installed on student devices

Program Description:

This course is designed to help students develop advanced team-building strategies for competitive Pokémon battles on the Nintendo Switch, focusing on games such as Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, Pokémon Sword & Shield, and Pokémon Showdown (for practice). Students will learn core battle mechanics, including type matchups, EV/IV training, move synergy, and meta-analysis. The course covers key strategies such as team synergy, counterplay, weather teams, stall teams, and hyper-offense compositions, as well as how to analyze battle data and opponent tendencies. Students will gain hands-on experience in Singles and Doubles battle formats, preparing them for online ranked play, tournaments, and VGC (Video Game Championships) competitions.
