This course prepares students for the AP Computer Science Principles (AP CSP) exam by introducing the foundational concepts of computing, programming, and digital innovation. Students will explore how computers process information, how software is designed, how the Internet functions, and how technology impacts society. Through hands-on programming activities, collaborative problem-solving, and real-world case studies, students will develop computational thinking skills while preparing for both the multiple-choice AP exam and the Create Performance Task. The course emphasizes creativity, logical reasoning, ethical technology use, and practical programming experience, making it an excellent introduction to computer science for students planning to pursue STEM, business, or technology careers.
The final project can include: An Original Computer Program — A functional application demonstrating sequencing, selection, iteration, procedures, variables, and data abstraction. A Create Performance Task Portfolio — Practice artifacts including code, written responses, and a demonstration video modeled after the AP Create Performance Task. A Computational Thinking Journal — Documentation of debugging, algorithm development, testing, and problem-solving throughout the course. A Technology Impact Presentation — A research presentation examining how computing influences society, including ethical considerations such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, privacy, or digital equity.
