This course introduces students to the art of storytelling, helping them develop the creativity and communication skills needed to craft engaging stories for a variety of audiences and formats.
This course introduces students to the art of storytelling, helping them develop the creativity and communication skills needed to craft engaging stories for a variety of audiences and formats. Students will explore the essential elements of storytelling, including character development, setting, plot, conflict, dialogue, pacing, theme, and point of view. Through interactive activities, collaborative exercises, and creative writing or oral presentations, students will learn how stories entertain, educate, and inspire. The course also examines storytelling across different mediums, such as books, film, theater, podcasts, video games, and digital media, encouraging students to discover their own unique voice and style. Students will build confidence in expressing ideas while strengthening communication, critical thinking, creativity, and presentation skills in a supportive and collaborative environment.
The final project can include: An Original Story – A written, illustrated, or digitally presented story featuring original characters, setting, and plot. A Live or Recorded Storytelling Performance – An oral presentation or performance of an original or adapted story using effective voice, expression, and audience engagement. A Story Development Portfolio – A collection of brainstorming activities, character profiles, plot outlines, story maps, and revisions demonstrating the creative process. A Multimedia Storytelling Project – A digital story, podcast, comic, storyboard, or short video that combines storytelling techniques with visual or audio elements.
