The final project can include: A Decorated Cake Showcase – A fully decorated cake demonstrating multiple techniques such as piping, layering, and themed design. A Design Sketch and Plan – A visual or written outline of the cake design, including colors, patterns, and inspiration. A Technique Portfolio – Photos or samples of practiced skills such as borders, lettering, and decorative elements. A Reflection on Process and Presentation – A summary of techniques learned, challenges faced, and improvements made.

Program Requirements:

  • Baking Equipment (ex: Oven; Baking sheets / trays; Mixing bowls; Measuring cups and spoons; Hand mixers or stand mixers; Cooling racks; Parchment paper or silicone baking mats; Whisks and wooden spoons; oven mitts; Spatulas)
  • List of Student Allergies
  • Sink (Must be Cooking-Safe)
  • Cake decorating turntable (ideally 1 per 2–3 students)
  • Piping bags + basic tips (round + star minimum)
  • Fondant tools (basic shaping/cutting tools)
  • Offset spatula
  • Cake smoother

Program Description:

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of cake decorating and basic pastry presentation, combining creativity with practical culinary skills. Students will learn techniques such as frosting application, piping, borders, lettering, color mixing, and simple decorative designs, while also exploring food safety, cleanliness, and kitchen organization. The course encourages artistic expression as students experiment with different styles, themes, and techniques to create visually appealing desserts. Emphasis is placed on patience, attention to detail, and presentation, making it ideal for students interested in baking, culinary arts, or creative design.
