Final Projects or Artifacts:

Students will create an Anime Appreciation Portfolio, which can include: An In-Depth Anime Review – A written or video analysis of a selected anime series or film, discussing themes, animation techniques, and character arcs. A Creative Project – Options include fan art, a short manga, an AMV (anime music video), or a cosplay design inspired by their favorite anime. A Cultural Analysis Presentation – A research-based exploration of how anime reflects Japanese culture, mythology, or societal issues. A Group Discussion Leader Guide – A set of thought-provoking discussion questions and activities designed to facilitate a club meeting.

Program Requirements:

  • Instructor access to SmartBoard or Projector
  • Laptop 1 per student (ex: Chromebook; Lenovo)
  • Art supplies (ex: colored markers; drawing paper; paints)
  • Access to YouTube
  • Access to Manga (optional)

Program Description:

This course provides students with an engaging and interactive space to explore and appreciate anime as both an art form and a cultural phenomenon. Students will watch and discuss a variety of anime genres, analyze storytelling techniques, character development, animation styles, and thematic depth. The course will also explore the history of anime, its impact on global pop culture, and connections to Japanese culture and traditions. Students will engage in lively discussions, creative activities, and community-building projects to deepen their appreciation for anime and its influence.
