This course immerses students in the high-energy world of drumline, focusing on the technical, rhythmic, and performance skills required to excel as part of a percussion ensemble. Students will learn fundamental techniques for various percussion instruments, such as snares, tenors, bass drums, and cymbals, while exploring the importance of timing, precision, and teamwork. The course also covers music reading, dynamic expression, and choreography to create captivating performances. Whether preparing for marching band, competitions, or personal growth, students will develop discipline, coordination, and a deep appreciation for percussion music.
Students will perform and/or record a group drumline piece, showcasing their rhythmic skills, synchronization, and ability to play as part of an ensemble. The project will include a reflective write-up detailing their role in the performance, their individual contributions, and how they improved throughout the course. This recording can serve as a portfolio piece for auditions or future musical endeavors.
